Tirzepatide Before weight treatment Chapter index

Know the limits

# Stomach trouble can be common without always being mild.

Common does not mean something has to be brushed aside. Ask how the person treating you will hear about a problem and decide what it means.

Myth to test

Does a common stomach problem always stay mild?

Short answer

Tirzepatide can cause severe stomach problems, and fluid loss from vomiting or diarrhea has been linked to kidney injury.

## Keep the comparison beside the frequency

Weight trials on the tirzepatide (Zepbound) label show how often stomach problems arose in the study groups.

Nausea names that sick feeling in the stomach; these trials also found diarrhea, constipation and vomiting to be common.

The label does not recommend Zepbound for severe gastroparesis, where the stomach empties very slowly.

The label also warns of swelling in the pancreas, an organ involved in digesting food, and disease of the gallbladder, another organ involved in digestion.

Pancreas swelling, called pancreatitis, can cause severe belly pain or pain that lasts, sometimes reaching the back.

Reported gallbladder problems include stones, swelling and operations to remove the gallbladder.

Serious allergic reactions have also been reported.

Ask what signs need urgent help; the names of these illnesses are not a way to diagnose yourself.

## Feeling sick to the stomach in weight trials

Tirzepatide groups

In weight trials on the tirzepatide (Zepbound) label, nausea affected about 25 to 29 people per 100 taking the medicine.

Dummy-shot group

In the dummy-shot group, nausea affected 8 people per 100.

The bar lengths compare nausea in the study groups; the lighter end marks the range for tirzepatide.

## Make the help plan clear

Raise the question before treatment begins. It is easier to keep a plan you already understand.

Who can I reach about a new problem?

How will we decide whether it needs a visit in a room?

A face or tongue that swells, or difficulty breathing, may mean a severe allergic reaction requiring emergency help, as described by MedlinePlus.

For medicine-related concerns, what information will the person treating me want?
