Tirzepatide Before weight treatment Chapter index

Check the product

# Made to order is different from an approved generic.

Two products can share an ingredient name without sharing the same review. Compounded means made to order; that word describes how the product was made.

Myth to test

Is a pharmacy-made version just a generic?

Short answer

For compounded tirzepatide, the September 2026 check shows no generic approval issued by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

## Know what compounding means

With compounding, a medicine is prepared or altered for a patient's need instead of using a product already made.

No FDA-approved generic tirzepatide exists as of September 2026.

Before marketing, a compounded medicine goes without FDA review of its quality, benefit or safety.

Compounding can serve needs an approved medicine cannot meet; it is not unlawful simply because it is compounding.

As of September 2026, the law restricts regular or large-scale production of made-to-order copies of medicines already available.

The FDA's copy test looks at the working ingredient, whether the strength can replace the ready-made product and whether both are given the same way.

For a named patient, a prescriber can identify and record a change that makes an important difference compared with the ready-made medicine.

Price savings by themselves cannot establish that important difference.

## Get the exact product answer

A clear discussion can name what is proposed and why. If the answer remains broad, bring the question back to the product.

Is this a ready-made brand product or medicine made to order?

What need is the change meant to meet for me?

Who makes it, and which pharmacy will send it?

What written information will come with it?

How does the current shortage status affect the proposed product?
